

Pokémon x Oreo - A Most Delicious Collab Of All Times!

It was perfect timing for Coldplay to tour India, what with Oreo painting every home yellow with Oreo Pokémon cookies!
And it’s a proud moment for all of us at Dream Theatre to have brought together two of the biggest consumer brands – Pokémon and Oreo – to create what is easily one of the biggest, probably the biggest consumer engagements mounted by any FMCG company in India.
Strategically speaking, it was a collab that was just meant to happen with so much common ground. India is the fastest growing market for both brands, play and cross generational appeal lies at the heart of both brands, and combined with aligned marketing objective to delight consumers, Oreo and Pokémon is a perfect match. And to our delight, it has played out as a perfect playbook.
The collab entailed 16 Pokémon uniquely embossed cookies in classic Oreo flavours of chocolate, vanilla and strawberry cream and an all new special edition yellow Pokémon cookies that has taken the biscuit market in India by storm. The collab also created a ground breaking and super successful digital integration wherein fans could scan the cookies and create their own Pokémon themed digital avatars, collect the cookies into an Oreodex and win exciting prizes from Pokémon books and backpacks to a trip to Japan. Ably supported by a solid marketing plan across TV, Social Media, Outdoors, Retail, Quick-commerce, PR , this collab has been truly ground breaking not only in achieving sales and marketing objectives, but in engaging young and old fans and expanding the market by bringing in new audiences for both brands.
Behind the scenes this meant the Dream Theatre team playing a critical role encompassing product, packaging, collectibles, digital and retail activation, marketing communications - all made possible by creating a close knit circle of stakeholders in all three companies and numerous rounds of brainstorming, careful planning and leveraging our collective market knowledge and experience to deliver a truly on brand experience that sparks joy and therefore, unprecedented sales :)
And the results have been stupendous! Apart from Oreo selling out across stores and platforms far faster than estimated, the engagement online has been one of the highest seen in recent times and goes to prove that the right brand fit and strong creative execution, licensing delivers each time and is testimony that when the best collaborate, you create iconic experiences that will be remembered for long as a greatest of all time!
